Alcantarea

The genus Alcantarea is similar to Vriesea but grows much larger. In fact at one time Alcantarea was classified within the genus Vriesea. The "flaming sword" shape is characteristic of both genera. Some of the Alcantarea can grow very large with foliage five feet across and a bloom spike six feet tall.
