Aechmea fasciata is one of the most popular bromeliads, first cultivated in 1826. It is the world's most well known ornamental bromeliad.
The genus Aechmea has plants of all sizes: small, medium, and large. They usually have green leaves, sometimes with banding of silver, but there are plants with foliage of shades of yellow, orange, and maroon. Their spectacular long lasting flowers have stalks of colorful berries.
